Summit Township looking for new police car

After several months of considering purchasing a new police car, township supervisors gave their approval on the decision during Monday night's reorganization meeting. &#8220We have been considering purchasing a new car for sometime," township Supervisor Dave Lohr said during a telephone interview Sunday night. In April, the board started discussing whether to purchase an additional car. Supervisors was presented with the option of purchasing Garrett Borough's police cruiser in September for $4,200 but decided against it.The township's current cruiser, a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria with more than 135,000 miles, has required several recent repairs, leaving the vehicle's reliability questionable.&#8220It's (the car) been giving us a lot of problems," said Lohr.At the supervisor's Dec. 18 meeting, where members again postponed their decision on purchasing a new police car, the township's only cruiser broke down at the township building.Lohr added the car has had some additional maintenance problems since the last supervisors meeting.Finding a new police car for the department is the responsibility of Officer-In-Charge Nathan Claycomb.
